Fort Moultrie's history covers 171 years of seacoast defense, including the first decisive victory in the American Revolution and the firing onto Fort Sumter during the first battle of the Civil War. Both US I-26 and US I-526 lead to US-17, and US-17 leads to SC-703. Take US-17 North to Mt. Pleasant and turn right onto SC-703. At Sullivan's Island, turn right onto Middle Street. The fort is 1.5 miles from that intersection.
